A Leeds First: Leeds Open Studios

Leeds-based design maker, Amy Stringer, has taken the lead to start the first annual Leeds Open Studios

Bringing together artist studios across the city and uniting the creative community of Leeds, 5 studios will be opening their doors to the public on Sunday 24th September.

About Fabrication 2, the host studio

Fabrication 2, where Amy is the studio manager, is home to over 20 different makers from a variety of disciplines. With jewellers and  ceramicists, bookbinders, fashion designers, woodworkers and illustrators with many crafts in-between, Fabrication 2 is a hub of creativity. The studio was set up in 2008 by the brains  behind the Fabrication store, Dawn Wood and Andrew Clark, which can currently be found on Albion Street. The studio has grown from strength to strength due to its community nature and unrivalled tool access.

About Leeds Open Studios

The event takes place on Sunday 24th September 2023, 11-4pm and offers the opportunity for the people of Leeds to visit several different studio venues. These include Assembly House, home to a host of fine artists, sculptors and exhibition space. Open Source Arts, empowering creative, practical action towards healthier, more resilient citizens, neighbourhoods and sustainable futures. SERF, home to multiple artists and project spaces. Also TOM-O sustainable fashion designer maker based in the corn exchange, and Fabrication Albion Street

The public will have the chance to explore private studio spaces, view work and take part in demonstrations, as well as  purchase work directly from the artists. Multiple artists will be present during the event, allowing the public to engage with the hidden talents of Leeds. The event will provide a snapshot of lesser seen creative talent throughout the city and build  community between studio spaces.

Any studio can join and be part of the social media campaign, which will consist of daily posts throughout September, all via the Fabrication 2 instagram.
